by Conaway Haskins | Jan 29, 2018

On March 21-22, 2018, the 2018 Virginia Agritourism Conference will be held at the Great Wolf Lodge in Williamsburg. With Virginia agritourism generating over $2.2 billion in economic impact, this year’s theme is “Agritourism in Virginia's New Economy” and the two-day event attempts to bring innovative perspectives and critical resources on a variety of issues. This is the fourth installment of this statewide conference which first launched in 2015.

The first day will be an opportunity for attendees to understand how farms are launching and improving their agritourism operations, build a fundable business plan, discussion land conservation, and identify funding resources. There will be two farm visits to discover successes and challenges on the ground. The second day will focus on topics such as: improving farm customer service strategies, exploring new agritourism ideas that are tied to Virginia’s K-12 Standards of Learning, child safety, equestrian activities, and learning about legal, liability, and labor management concerns.

The conference offers multiple opportunities for networking and engaging in conversations with a diverse cast of experts who understand operating in Virginia and are well-prepared to share their knowledge. Agritourism entrepreneurs, economic developers, and local government leaders are encouraged to attend. The deadline to register is March 2, and the registration fee is $135 for a two-day registration or $105 for a one-day registration.

The 2018 Virginia Agritourism Conference is sponsored by Virginia Cooperative Extension, Virginia State University Small Farm Outreach Program, Virginia Tourism Corporation, Farm Credit, Virginia Association of Counties, Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Virginia FAIRS, Virginia Farm Bureau, USDA Rural Development, Virginia Tech, and Virginia Agribusiness Council.
